Clint Eastwood on Gun Control

Wise words from one of my favorite actors, ever.

Warrior Wednesdays #1: Daniel Inouye

Welcome to my new blog.

Every Wednesday, when time permits, I shall write a short tribute to a great warrior from history.

Since he died recently, I would like to honor Lieutenant Daniel Inouye, a great soldier and probably our last honorable politician.

Despite being classified as an enemy alien just for being Japanese, Inouye desired to fight for his country. He let nothing stop him. When FDR allowed Japanese-Americans to fight in the segregated 442nd Regimental Combat Team, he jumped at the chance to fight for his country. Because the Army did not trust Japanese soldiers to fight in the Pacific, they were shipped off the frontlines in Italy, where they faced some of Hitler's most hardened troops.

In the fall of 1944, the 442nd was ordered to rescue an encircled unit of Texas National Guardsmen. Despite being greatly outnumbered, the 442nd smashed the Germans to hell and back. Inouye fought in 5 days of intrenched, often hand to hand combat.

Later, on the Monte Cusello ridge, Inouye killed 25 Germans and wounded 8, despite having a bullet in his abdomen and his left arm being severed by a rocket grenade. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for this action.

His arm was replaced by a prosthesis, and then he ran for one of Hawaii's senatorial seats as a Democrat. He won the post 9 times, never losing an election.

Badass.

I would also like to give honorable mention to another warrior and great politician. Today is the birthday of Lieutenant and President John F. Kennedy, who commanded a PT boat in combat against the Japanese in the Pacific.
